Coronation Street and Emmerdale were snubbed for a major awards ceremony

ITV soaps Coronation Street AND Emmerdale both missed a nomination for the 2023 Royal Television Society Programming Awards.

The RTS Awards only has three nominees in each category, meaning competition for a Soap and Continuing Drama nomination is fierce.

This year, EastEnders, Accident AND holly oaks are fighting for victory.

In the last 12 months EastEnders saw Phil Mitchell and Kat Slater try and fail to tie the knot, Mick Carter meets a gruesome end, and Zack Hudson recently found out he is HIV positive.

Accident aired an outing for fan-favorite Ethan Hardy’s character and kicked off an impromptu episode. Meanwhile, holly oaks brought back serial killer Silas – only to be fired by his grandson Bobby – and investigated the issue of radical misogyny.

corrie was one of three nominees last year while holly oaks ended up winning. before that Accident won two years in a row.

In categories other than soap at this year’s RTS Awards, we have Top Boy, Responder AND Sherwood struggling in the drama series category. Cunk on Earth, Derry Girls AND Big boys compete in the feature comedy category. And Huw Edwards, Ramita Navai and Martin Lewis nominated in the presenter category.

In a press release, RTS Chairman Kenton Allen said: “It is extremely important to support the outstanding content created in our industry by both established and emerging talent. 2023 was another year of attention-grabbing, thought-provoking, world-class TV.

“The nominees announced today are a reflection of the extraordinary strength of our British creators, and it now faces the impossible task of choosing the winners in each of these highly competitive categories.

“I’m looking forward to meeting up later this month to celebrate everyone’s achievements and I’m delighted that my more talented distant cousin Tom Allen will return to host the ceremony again this year.”

The winners of the Royal Television Society 2023 program awards will be announced on Tuesday 28 March.
