American football fans were outraged when CBS cut coverage of Manchester City’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid to present a groundbreaking report on former president Donald Trump.
Pep Guardiola’s team traveled to Madrid on Tuesday afternoon to face Real Madrid in the first leg of the semi-final, which was set to be an exciting rematch of last year’s clash between the reigning Premier League winners and Champions League holders.
However, soccer fans in the US were left to fend for themselves after CBS, the only channel to cover Europe’s biggest games, cut its program midway through the first half of the Santiago Bernabeu clash.

Manchester City were playing the first leg of the semi-final against Real Madrid when the broadcast was interrupted

The show cut short from on-pitch action for a special report on Donald Trump
The network temporarily suspended the broadcast of the clash of the two titans to break the news that the 45th president of the United States has been found responsible for battery and defamation.
And football fans across the US were furious as they took to social media to slam the net for the break.
“CBS really just interrupted a UEFA Champions League game to tell us Trump lost a civil case ???? Like brah Put the game back on wtf @CBS,” one angry viewer exploded on social media.
@snapback_sports CEO and Founder Jack Settleman asked: “Is it still possible to restart a Champions League game or do I have to watch this special trump report?”
Meanwhile, one Twitter user threatened a joke: “If CBS doesn’t stop with their ‘special news report’ and resume a Champions League game, I’ll vote for Trump.”
“There is no way CBS will stop a Champions League game for Trump,” one Twitter user wrote alongside a man’s hand emoji.
Another didn’t hold back from venting his frustration as they complained, “WHY IS TRUMP CAPTURING THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, BACK ME BACK TO IMPORTANT @CBSSportsSoccer.”
A similar level of fury was shared by another soccer viewer on Twitter who wrote: “YOU D***HEADS STOPPED THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TO TELL US TRUMP IS $5 MILLION DOLLARS LOWER, WE DON’T CARE, PUT THE GAME BACK!!! !!”.

Viewers were furious as many took to Twitter to blow up the network for the outage
Meanwhile, one American football fan asked in disbelief: “They broke into the Champions League for the Trump verdict???”.
Another viewer shared a photo from a sports bar that showed the game on TVs behind the bar, which showed a special segment of the report splashing across the screens rather than the action.
They announced: “Champions League broadcast interrupted due to Donald Trump news”, before adding: “Seriously, but turn the game back on.”
However, some social media users pointed out that Univision, the network that has Spanish-language coverage rights, reportedly continued to show the game and urged people to switch.

Both teams had just 13 minutes into battle when a red CBS special report graphic flashed across US TV screens and the network entered a breaking news segment where football was completely forgotten.
The broadcaster continued to report that the former president had been found liable for beatings and defamation in a civil case brought by E. Jean Carroll for a long period of time.
Fans watching CBS missed 13 minutes of the game, and the broadcast was interrupted around 3:15 p.m. and resumed around 3:28 p.m.
Luckily for viewers, they didn’t miss any key action and the score was still 0-0 when the footage finally returned.
CBS can breathe a sigh of relief that those desperate to see a thriller between City and Real didn’t miss the opening goal.
Vinicius Jr. he scored a racket in the 36th minute, eight minutes after coverage resumed.
