Jurgen Klopp has praised Liverpool’s ability to bounce back after the opening goal against Wolves was conceded by VAR.

Darwin Nunez opened the scoring for Liverpool in the 65th minute of a Premier League game against Wolves. However, his goal was disallowed.

Referee Paul Tierney disallowed the goal after consulting the side monitor and realized that Diogo Jota had fouled Max Kilman during the build-up.

Klopp disagreed with the decision as there was no foul in his eyes. However, he said he was impressed with how his side responded psychologically.

The German manager said Liverpool were guilty of drawing and losing matches under similar circumstances in the past because of how they reacted.

However, Liverpool won their clash with Wolves 2-0 thanks to goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mohammed Salah.

Speaking of the disallowed goal, Klopp said: “I saw it back, I don’t think it was a foul, in slow motion everything looks like a foul.” But reacting in this way is important to us, tonight is exactly what we needed in a fantastic atmosphere.

Liverpool reacted well to the incident and scored with a Van Dijk header just seven minutes later.

Salah then added to Liverpool’s tally – scoring his 20th goal of the season, meaning he reached this turning point at the club six years in a row.

The win and a fourth consecutive clean sheet in the Premier League moved the Reds to sixth place in the table, six points adrift of fourth-placed Spurs with a game to play.

Speaking about the game as a whole, Klopp said: “I think the whole story of the game is important to us. I think we did a lot of good things in the first half, we played the way we had to play.

“We didn’t create too many clear chances, the best was probably Harvey Elliott’s header which he missed.

“In the second half, around the disallowed goal, we increased the pressure and things like that.

I think you all saw that (uncredited) goal a few times ago and when you watch it in slow motion you see contact then but I still think it was a goal – but that’s not important anymore.

“The players don’t have a replay and that’s obviously a clear goal for them. Then you have to react.

“I wasn’t worried, but of course then you see how the boys react – and the reaction was really good.

“Then you push a goal and then the second goal was a special game – really good counter-attack, every pass was perfect.

“Then we controlled it again. So it was a good performance by us and very important. And of course, a clean slate again, which is extremely helpful. These are all positives for us, all good.

Wolves had only one shot on target, with boss Julen Lopetegui admitting his team deserved nothing from the game.

“It was frustrating because we didn’t achieve anything here, but we didn’t deserve anything,” he said.

“Maybe in the first half, but in the second half we didn’t keep the rhythm and when they scored it was obviously more difficult.

We lost one game – it’s a pity, but we have to change our attitude very quickly because we have another important game (at home against Tottenham) in three days. But it wasn’t a good game for us.
