The producer of Tears of Kingdom does not rule out a playable Zelda in the next game

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Realm is finally available on Nintendo Switch, expanding on the game-changing formula introduced in The breath of the wild.

But one major change that fans of the long-running adventure series would like to see is having a female lead. A female Link has previously been ruled out (although we do have Linkle in a non-canon spin-off Warriors of Hyrule), but how about a game with the title princess Zelda in the lead role?

speak to Vanity fairlong time Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma said, “We feel the most important thing is the gameplay concept.

“If it turns out that the particular gameplay we’re trying to bring to life best serves Zelda in the role, then it’s possible that could be a direction we could go in.

“Having said that, of course, since we’re not sure what the next gameplay experience will be, we can’t say what Zelda’s next move will be.”

Aonuma repeated it, regardless of direction Zelda will come in next, it will probably take quite a long time. Asked if Tears of the Kingdom was the last Zelda “I mean, considering it took us five years, it’s kind of hard to look ahead.”

There have been many rumors about a Switch successor, although no new hardware is expected for at least the next year.

Even if that’s the case, Nintendo wouldn’t necessarily give up on the Switch right away.

While another main line Zelda from Team A is unlikely to hit Switch, developer Grezzo releases such remakes 3D Time Ocarina AND Link’s Awakening in the meantime, so maybe there’s another one in the works?
