Joe’s London vacation has come to a bloody end, and after leaving a trail of bodies behind, Netflix’s favorite serial killer returns to the States. However, Netflix is yet to renew You for a fifth season, but expect to learn more in the coming weeks. For now, we’ll keep track of everything you need to know You season 5 on Netflix.
You is a Netflix Original romantic crime drama series created by Greg Berlanti and based on the novels You AND Hidden bodies by Caroline Kepnes.
Prior to appearing on Netflix, the series aired on Lifetime. However, once Netflix picked up the series as an original, the streaming service’s global reach helped propel You into the stratosphere in popularity, and it has since been one of Netflix’s most popular crime dramas.
You Netflix season 5 renewal status
Netflix Official Renewal Status: Pending (last updated: 09/03/2023)
At the time of writing, Netflix has yet to announce a fifth season renewal You.
Given that the second half of season four has only just become available to stream, we may have to wait a few weeks before any news on the renewal becomes available.
However, we have data from the first few weeks of the first half of the season to determine how well the show is doing and speculate on renewal chances.
|Week period||Viewing hours (M)||Rank||A week in the top ten|
|February 5, 2023 to February 12, 2023||92,070,000||1||1|
|February 12, 2023 to February 19, 2023||64,060,000 (-30%)||1||2|
|February 19, 2023 to February 26, 2023||27,750,000 (-57%)||5||3|
The first half of the fourth season was only able to accumulate 183,880,000 million hours watched since its premiere and dropped out of the top 10 worldwide in its fourth week.
It should be noted that many fans online have made it clear that they will not be watching the fourth season until all ten episodes are available. Not to mention, some fans jumped at the opportunity to use the countdown to the release of part 2 to watch the show again.
In total, all four seasons have accumulated over 1 billion hours of watching on Netflix. However, when you consider that Netflix has been releasing weekly data since Q3 2021, if you add in the viewing data from season 2, that brings the viewing statistics to over 1.5 billion watch hours. The total number of hours watched is even higher when one considers that the viewership figures for the first season have never been released except for the fact that the series had 40 million viewers.
Once we have the next few weeks of data review, we can speculate further on a potential fifth season renewal. We still expect the series to resume, as we believe that the fifth season may be the last.
What can we expect from You season 5?
For the second time in his life, the power and money of Joe’s close family saved him from the consequences of his crimes. Thanks to Kate inheriting her father’s fortune and company, Joe now has access to almost limitless resources.
This means that if Joe were to murder again, it doesn’t take much to sweep it under the rug.
Joe embraced his dark self
Always imagining himself as the hero of his own story, Joe tirelessly tried to fight the dark side of his personality. The attempt to disassociate himself from his actions was so strong that it led to a mental breakdown that left Joe hallucinating as a manifestation of the dark side of himself.
The symbolism of Joe’s reflection in a skyscraper window and seeing Rhys’s reflection instead is our acknowledgment that Joe has now embraced his darker self.
Will Joe kill for fun now?
Logically, aside from threatening him or Kate, Joe has no other reason to murder anyone. However, we’re talking about Joe, which means some poor unfortunate (or deserving) soul will eventually cross his path and end up dead.
Deep down, Joe enjoys killing, but only now, with Kate’s power and influence, is he able to murder with impunity. Knowing he’s protected, Joe can be sloppy looking for any reason to chase the thrill of a homicide, especially if he can justify it with virtuous reasoning like protecting himself and Kate.
Will Joe’s past come back to haunt him?
Despite his power and influence, there are three big cases that have not been fully resolved. Marienne, Nadia and Ellie Alves.
After refusing to cooperate with Joe, Nadia is currently in prison after being framed for her boyfriend’s murder. In time, there may be a way to release it.
We’re not even sure Joe knows Marienne is alive. It’s better for her sake if this continues. Her daughter, Juliette, is the main reason why Marienne may never reveal her existence to Joe, however, if Marienne decides to try to bring him to justice, she will need help.
Finally there is Ellie, Delilah’s sister who was murdered by Love Quinn. When Joe was still in the United States, he regularly sent money to Ellie while she was in college in New York. After Joe faked his death and moved to England, it is unclear if these payments continued. Joe’s return to the States is a story of great fascination that was made public as Kate used her power and influence to control the narrative and make Joe a victim of his ex-wife Love Quinn. If Ellie can connect the dots and realize that Joe played a role in Delilah’s death, she may seek revenge on her sister’s behalf.
It should be noted that Jenna Ortega was supposed to appear in the fourth season You, but her busy schedule prevented her from reprising the role. However, if there is time in her schedule for a comeback, we may see her You once again.
Will Joe get his own stalker?
Over the past four seasons, Joe has stalked many people, including himself, but the object of his obsession has been limited to a small group of people, Beck Love, Marienne, and an imaginary Rhys.
With Joe now the subject of great media fascination, it may be time for Joe to be stalked.
Who are the cast members You season 5?
Of course, Penn Badgley will return as Joe Goldberg.
We would also expect Charlie Ritchie to reprise her role as Kate Lockwood in season five.
As we have further information, we will ensure that we keep you informed of the latest news.
When can we expect to see You Season 5 on Netflix?
Release schedules for the previous 4 seasons You were as follows;

- Season 4A – 02/09/2023
- Season 4B – 03/09/2023
It’s been a little over thirteen months from the last episode airing on Showtime to the premiere of the second season on Netflix. Thanks to the pandemic, there was a significant twenty-two-month gap until the premiere of the third season. There was a sixteen-month hiatus between the third and first half of the fourth season. Finally, there was a month separating the first and second half of the fourth season.
Considering previous releases, it could be thirteen to sixteen months before we see the final season You on Netflix. That means we could see You season 5 on Netflix anywhere between April 2024 and July 2024.
